Graffiti: as a Subculture

  • Many Australian cities have walls or areas designated for graffiti, such as the "Graffiti Tunnel" at the Camperdown Campus in the University of Sydney.
  • The Paris Catacombs is a haven for artists of all kinds, including graffiti artists, to express themselves. The people who create art in the Catacombs call themselves "Cataphiles", and the art they create is known as "kata-art".
  • In other cities such as New York, graffiti artists often look for abandoned tunnels where they can congregate to create their art, forming a community of "tunnel people".
